DURHAM, N.H. (MyFoxBoston.com/AP) - University of New Hampshire officials say a female student who reported two men tried to take her wallet was lying.

The woman told police she was near Rudman Hall on Academic Way at about 9:15 p.m. when the men grabbed her. She told police she was able to fight off the attackers, striking one man in the face.

On Friday, police said the entire incident was hoax.

The woman could be charged with false report to law enforcement which carries a penalty of up to a year in jail and a $2,000 fine.
