Mass. gov. heading to Canada on trade mission

Posted: Updated:

BOSTON (AP) - Gov. Deval Patrick is planning to lead a trade mission to Canada this week.

The governor and a delegation of state and business leaders will visit Toronto, Ottawa, and Montreal during the four-day trip starting Tuesday.

Patrick has said the trade mission would focus on building partnerships between Massachusetts and Canada in areas including clean energy, health care, financial services, digital gaming, and life sciences.

Energy Secretary Rick Sullivan is planning to tour large hydroelectric facilities in Newfoundland and Labrador and Quebec before joining Patrick.

Canada is the state's largest export partner.

The governor has led several international trade missions in recent years, including trips to Great Britain, Israel, Brazil, Chile and Colombia.

The costs for the past trips have been split between private businesses and the state.
