Plight of 'Puppy Doe' inspires lawmakers to create legislation

Posted: Updated:

(MyFoxBoston.com) – Republican lawmakers moved by the case of "Puppy Doe" have filed legislation to prevent future cases of animal cruelty called The Paws Act.

If the act is passed, it would contain names, pictures, and information on convicted animal abusers.

The registry is loosely based off the Sex Offender Registry and would be the first of its kind in the country.

The list would be available to the public and distributed among animal shelters, breeders, and pet shops.

The Senate Republican caucus is seeking broad support from members of both parties to sign the bill.

The deadline for co-sponsorship is next Tuesday at 5 p.m.
