NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Swimmer Diana Nyad has completed a 48-hour continuous swim in a 120-foot portable pool at Herald Square to raise money for Superstorm Sandy victims.

The Swim for Relief fundraiser began on Monday and ended Thursday morning.

"There are still thousands of people homeless. I'm going to swim for 48 hours remembering those people," said Nyad before she hopped into the pool.

According to the event website, Nyad had raised more than $103,000.

Last month, the 64-year-old completed a 110-mile swim last month from Havana, Cuba to Key West, Florida, on her fifth try.

It appears the subway bedbug problem we've been reporting is getting worse. Commuters already have to contend with sweltering platforms, scurrying rats and packed train cars, and now there's another transit woe: fear of bedbugs.

Heavy thunderstorms swept through the tri-state on Sunday causing flash floods and lightning strikes that injured 3 people. The three men were struck at Orchard Beach in the Bronx Sunday afternoon and were being treated at a local hospital. Meanwhile, various Labor Day weekend celebrations were interrupted, delayed and even canceled as the U.S. Open tennis tournament had to be postponed and the Electric Zoo musical festival on Randall's Island had to be prematurely shut down.
