Caught On Video: Blind Man Attacked On Philly Sidewalk

PHILADELPHIA -

Philadelphia police released chilling surveillance video Tuesday that shows a blind man being beaten in broad daylight on a street corner in Southwest Germantown.

The incident happened just after noon Wednesday Wayne Avenue and Seymour Street, and it was all captured on one of the police department's "Real Time Crime Center Cameras" located on the northeast corner of the intersection.

The 33-year-old victim was walking east on Seymour towards Wayne, and the suspect on the corner store appears to look down the street as the complainant approaches, police said.

When the blind victim gets to the suspect, the unidentified man strikes him and knocks him to the ground, then proceeds to kick and stomp on him, causing injuries to his face and head as he lay helpless on the ground, police said.

After the assault, the suspect picked up a dark-colored backpack and walked away south on Wayne.

The surveillance video shows one person standing on the corner, watching the assault, while another continues to cross the street. At least one car drives by the beaten man on the ground.

The suspect was described as a black male, 20-years-old, wearing a tan-colored baseball cap, a tan shirt and khaki pants.

Police said if you see this suspect, do not approach him; call 911 immediately. To submit a tip, call 215-686-TIPS (8477) or text to PPD TIP or 773847.
