Device prompts evacuations in Weymouth Tuesday

WEYMOUTH, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – Columbian Square in Weymouth was evacuated for a time Tuesday as crews worked to remove a suspicious device.

Weymouth police said they received a call about the device, believed to be an artillery shell, near a trash can near Olden's Pharmacy at about 7:35 p.m.

Columbian Square was evacuated for a time as Hazardous Device Response Teams from Mass. State Police and the FBI worked to remove the device.

The device was safely removed and Columbian Square was reopened at about 9 p.m.

An investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information should call 781-335-1212.
