Government shutdown puts couple's dream wedding on hold

Posted: Updated:
CLARKESVILLE, Ga. -

The partial government shutdown has put a damper on a local couple's plans for a dream wedding.

Kayla Parker and her fiancé, Daniel Ott, were engaged under the waterfall at Horse Trough Falls. The two had hoped to commit their lives to each other in the same special place on Saturday.

"Every bride dreams: the perfect location, the hair, the make-up. And it's supposed to be beautiful tomorrow," Parker said.

But the wedding of her dreams will have to wait; the government shutdown has closed the park.

"I cried for about three hours the other day, when I found out it was closed," Parker said.

After a year of planning, their love story has been put on hold.

Kayla made most her wedding accessories, including the bouquets. Everything is engraved with date of Oct. 12. The couple said they'll now hold a reception, but not a wedding on that date.

The future Otts know that -- waterfall or not -- the important thing is that they have each other.

Once the government shutdown ends, they'll reschedule the wedding at the park.
