BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Former mayoral candidate Charlotte Golar Richie has formally thrown her support behind State Rep. Martin Walsh.
Golar Richie announced her endorsement during a press conference Saturday.
"I am convinced that Marty understands the struggles of working people because he has lived through it. I know he will stand up for people who've been marginalized and disenfranchised, because they are his neighbors. I know that he represents the hopes and aspirations of the side of town that I've advocated for throughout my career, and I believe he will stand up for this segment of our city, as our next mayor," said Golar Richie.
Walsh and Golar Richie served in the state Legislature together when she also served as a state representative.
Walsh and City Councilor John Connolly will face off in the election for mayor of Boston in November. The position is left vacant by Mayor Tom Menino, who announced earlier this year that he would not seek reelection.
