State police cruiser narrowly avoids crash in Tip O'Neill Tunnel
BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) – Mass. State Police troopers are urging drivers to slow down and use caution in construction zones after one of their own almost had his cruiser hit in the Tip O'Neill Tunnel in Boston.
The cruiser was stationary in the tunnel when a small black car approached at a high rate of speed and missed the cruiser by a matter of inches, state police said.
The black car then slide out of control as it passed the cruiser. The trooper stopped the car and said the driver was not impaired.
Lanes in the tunnel were closed to traffic; however, authorities said the tunnel had illuminated traffic signs and high visibility traffic cones to alert drivers. The double left lane closure continued until the exit of the tunnel at the Zakim Bridge.
