Ribbon cutting at new Bronx golf course

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) - The Trump Golf Links at Ferry Point Park will be a public golf course with no membership fees when it opens in 2015.

"I wanted a full season," said real estate mogul Donald Trump when asked why the wait to open the course.

A ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday.

Trump Golf Links at Ferry Point took 12 years to complete at a cost of about $100M.

The 200-acre urban oasis was once a landfill. The project hit many snags over the years until Trump stepped in in 2011 at the request of Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

"He wanted to see it finished before the end of his administration.  We built one of the great courses of the world.  It will bring so much money to NYC," said Trump.

Designed by golf legend Jack Nicklaus, the 18-hole course lies at the foot of the Whitestone Bridge near St. Raymond Cemetery.

"Next summer we will have some public events," said Trump.

Mayor Bill de Blasio won't be reimbursing the city for personal travels that involve his security detail. "We have followed the conflict of interest board guidelines. I am following their guidelines to the letter," said de Blasio. The mayor has been heavily criticized for not paying the city back for travel expenses. Attention around the issue started last week when de Blasio was spotted not paying for a subway ride to Barclays Center while on official business.

Security is being beefed up at Yankee Stadium this week. It is all part of Major League Baseball's safety plan. Ticketholders going to Tuesday night's game against the Houston Astros will notice metal detectors in place at some of the gates. They'll be asked to remove cellphones and large metal objects from their pockets before walking through them.
