Bristol DA Sutter won't run for Mass. AG

Posted: Updated:

FALL RIVER, Mass. (AP) - The prosecutor overseeing the murder case against ex-New England Patriot Aaron Hernandez says he won't run for attorney general of Massachusetts.

In a letter to the Herald News of Fall River, Bristol District Attorney Samuel Sutter said he would instead seek re-election to his current job.
Sutter, a Democrat, wrote that he gave strong consideration to running for attorney general, but decided that the timing wasn't right.
He didn't mention Hernandez by name in the letter, but referenced that he was overseeing the most highly publicized case since becoming DA and that it would require his attention going forward.
The state's current attorney general, Martha Coakley, is running for governor. No other candidates have announced plans yet to seek Coakley's job.
