Hot Topic: To spank or not to spank?

AUSTIN, Texas -

It is always a great debate among parents who want to properly discipline their children: To spank or not to spank? A new study suggests that spanking actually leads to a more aggressive child as they get older.

Reuters Health reports on a University of Texas at Austin study that finds spanking may actually lead to a mindset that aggression is a way to problem solve. It suggests that spanking detracts from teaching children how to negotiate and use their words to achieve their goals.

The study also finds that spanking is still a typical experience for children in the United States despite mounting evidence that it presents long-term damage.
