Gina's People: Good Life - Cultivating Kindness

Posted: Updated:
Los Angeles, CA -

How do you make the world more compassionate? Mike Petrone says it's very simple.  Just practice random acts of generosity. On a daily basis, the 27 year old hits the streets looking for someone to be nice to.  He'll bring blankets and jackets to people living on the street.  Sometimes, he'll buy a total stranger a cup of coffee.  If he doesn't have money, he'll pay someone a compliment.  It's simply about being nice to someone.

Petrone has "Good Life" tattooed on his fingers. He says, "The good life is more than finding materialistic things to make you happy. We can all find happiness in our lives by just being considerate and compassionate for others."  That's why he created the website Cultivatekindness.com The site encourages people to make a difference in someone's life. Petrone has been able to create chapters in  San Diego, Atlanta, Baltimore, Washington D.C. Denver and Miami.  They all collect clothes and blankets to hand out to the homeless.  Petrone dream is to change the world one person a time.

Unfortunately, most people aren't sure how to react to Petrone's kindness.  He does have a unique look to him.   A lot of piercings and tattoos.  "Most people are caught off guard. Most people with heavy tattoos have had a bad rap over the years and I would really like to change that perspective," says Petrone.

He's definitely a reminder to never judge a book by it's cover.  Petrone says, "Everybody has the ability to make a difference. They just need a little inspiration."
