Beverly man sentenced for March 2011 stabbing death
BEVERLY, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – A Beverly man was sentenced to 15 to 20 years in prison for the stabbing death of James Vernazzaro in March 2011.
A judge sentenced 20-year-old Sajan Christensen in Salem Superior Court on Monday. Christensen was found guilty of voluntary manslaughter on Oct. 11 for Vernazzaro's death.
Prosecutors argued that Christensen attacked Vernazzaro, who was unarmed, over "nothing more than words." They further urged the judge to punish Christensen not only for his crime, but also "to protect the community from this angry and lethally dangerous young man."
Christensen will receive 948 days of credit toward his sentence.
