FLORENCE, Ariz. (AP) - A state prison inmate serving a life sentence for the 2007 killing of a 17-year-old girl has died in what the Department of Corrections calls an apparent suicide.

The department says 22-year-old Todd Hoke died Monday at the Eyman prison complex in Florence.

Hoke had pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in the killing of Amber LeAnn Hess after she went to the movies with Hoke and another teenager.

The other teenager, Nicholas Castillo, was sentenced to 22 years in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree murder.

The victim's burned body was found in the desert off Hunt Highway, about five miles northwest of Florence.
