Suspects Use Hammer To Beat Business Owner In Blue Bell Home Invasion

Posted: Updated:
WHITPAIN TWP., Pa. -

The Barclay Hill development in Blue Bell is lined with expensive homes and well-manicured lawns. Not the kind of place you would expect to see a violent home invasion, robbery that now has residents in this Montgomery County town worried.

"Its just very scary to think that here's an 80-year-old man got followed from Philadelphia home to here in Blue Bell," said Kim Smith of Blue Bell.

"This is a suburb, things like that shouldn't happen here," Nancy Rosenberg told Fox 29.

Police now want to talk to a man who they say showed up at several locations where the home invasion victims stopped on their way home to Blue Bell last Wednesday night. When they arrived here, three men attacked the 77-year-old homeowner and his wife in the driveway. One suspect repeatedly hit the elderly man in the head with a hammer.

"He's gonna have serious injuries for the rest of his life. It's just very sad," said Smith whose husband works with the local rescue squad.

Whitpain Police say the suspects finally stopped hitting the husband with a hammer when his wife turned over an undisclosed amount of cash. She then hit an alarm button in the house and the suspects fled.

"Enough is enough. It's just very scary," a neighbor told Fox 29.

Police say the couple owns as business in Philadelphia and may have been targeted for the home invasion robbery. They say this guy may be a witness or something more important to the investigation. They want the public to help identify him. In the meantime neighbors and

residents here hope an arrest comes quickly.

It's horrific to think that we have small children, to think of that happening to any of us. It's just very scary," Smith said. "We were told there were some good leads so we're really hoping that the case because these men or women, they need to get caught."

Police refused to release any further information on the investigation. They would not identify the business owner. The man's family did not want to comment.

Anyone with information on the man depicted in the surveillance video should call Whitpain Police at 610-279-9033
