ATLANTA -

Children's Healthcare of Atlanta received a special gift for its music therapy program on Tuesday. A Texas man with a good heart donated a dozen guitars to young patients.

Ken Chinn is passionate about music. When his daughter Tara began to struggle with epilepsy at a Texas hospital, their passion for music inspired them to share that passion with others.

During a visit to the doctor, Tara brought her guitar. A nurse saw it and mentioned the music therapy program.

When Ken found out that there was a lack of guitars for the program, he and his daughter decided to donate 10 guitars.

The gift was such a hit that Chinn showed up in Atlanta on Tuesday with a dozen guitars ready for kids like Djuan Head who deals with complications from sickle cell.

Head instantly chose a blue guitar and got his first lesson.

"He is so infatuated with guitars. Hopefully we will learn how to play one since we got one," said Djuan's mother, Misheala Head. "I think this is a very great memory."

Professional guitar player Richard Bowden performed for patients in the Seacrest Studios.

Ken estimates he has given away about 200 guitars since he and his daughter started the Ken Chinn Guitar Project about a year ago.  A music therapist from CHOA said that the guitars can help the kids heal and give them a diversion from their illnesses.

Chinn already knows the healing powers of music.  He says his daughter is already doing better and feels good knowing his gift will also help patients like Djuan.

Chinn says he is only getting started. He plans on donating guitars to Seacrest Studios in hospitals around the country as well as schools and other programs that need them.
