Boston man convicted of prostitution charges

Posted: Updated:

BOSTON (AP) - A Boston man convicted of forcing two teenage girls into prostitution has been sentenced to up to seven years in prison.

Norman Barnes was sentenced Tuesday in Suffolk Superior Court after pleading guilty to statutory rape and deriving income from child prostitution. The victims were 15 and 16.

The 30-year-old Barnes was arrested near a Quincy hotel in May 2011 after the 15-year-old girl fled from her room, where prosecutors say Barnes was charging men $100 to $150 an hour to have sex with her.

The girl had found a computer and sent a message to family members to rescue her.

Barnes had nearly $20,000 in cash on him.

The Patriot Ledger reports that Barnes' lawyer sought a lighter sentence, saying both girls told him they were 18.
