NJ Mom Fights Off Attackers With Produce

Posted: Updated:
BRIDGETON, N.J. -

A brave mother fights off a group of men all while protecting her young children. The brazen crooks approached her when she least expected it, and police say they're now under arrest.

In surveillance video you'll see only on FOX, the footage shot outside J&M Grocery Store shows a mother and her two young children loading her vehicle with groceries.

A group of men approach her with a gun, demanding money.

Police say there was a struggle as one of the suspects tried to put his hand in the woman's pocket trying to grab any cash.

One of her kids manages to run for help as the group takes off with the victim's cell phone.

Police say the woman threw a bag of apples at the group, so one suspect turned around and fired his gun at her.

Fortunately no one was hit.

Police caught up with the suspects not far from the scene. They arrested three men as well as three juveniles. They say this incident is just the latest in a rash of robberies here.

Investigators are now looking into whether this group is tied to other crimes

FOX 29's Kelly Hessedal had more details in this live report from Bridgeton.
