CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Firefighters rescued a woman whose foot became caught in the sidewalk Saturday night as she crossed Michigan Avenue.

The woman was crossing Wacker Drive at Michigan Avenue about 10:30 p.m. when she stepped on a rubber expansion joint in the sidewalk, Fire Media Affairs Chief Joe Roccasalva said.

Her foot went through it and became trapped in the gap, Roccasalva said.

She was stuck for about 40 minutes.

Fire crews were able to free her, and she was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital to be checked out, he said.
