The last of three debates between Democrat Bill de Blasio, who's leading in the polls, and Republican Joe Lhota was scheduled for Tuesday, a day which happens to mark the one year anniversary of Sandy.
The candidates released a joint statement on Sunday saying the "day should be marked with solemn reflection and remembrance."
Sandy pummeled the East Coast, killing more than 180 people and causing an estimated $65 billion in damage, making it the second-costliest cyclone in the U.S. behind Hurricane Katrina.
