Police charge man they say tried to hit officer

Posted: Updated:

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. (AP) - Police in Sandy Springs have filed charges against a man they say tried to hit an officer and drove into two police vehicles.

Police Capt. Steve Rose tells The Atlanta Journal-Constitution (http://bit.ly/1dm4bw8 ) 18-year-old Colin Lee Daves faces criminal and traffic charges, including aggravated assault.

Rose says police spotted Daves around 7 p.m. Monday in a stolen car in a parking lot. Rose says Daves tried to flee the officers, hit two Sandy Springs police vehicles and nearly hit an officer.

Rose says the officer fired at the car and hit Daves.

Daves later wrecked the car and went to St. Joseph's Hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound in his leg. Hospital staff notified police, who took him into custody.

It wasn't immediately clear whether Daves had a lawyer.
