Posted: Updated:

Fall River, Mass. -- An early Tuesday morning fire at an area of storage units in Fall River revealed at least 22 units had also been broken into, according to Fall River Police Department spokesman Det. J.D. Costa.

At 1:18 a.m., Fall River police found one U-Haul storage unit totally engulfed in flames, and the fire spread to seven units before it was brought under control. During the investigation, police found that locks had been pried open on the 22 units, some of which contained an SUV and motorcycles. The total amount of property damage is estimated to be between $40,000 and $50,000, Costa said.

The fire has been ruled arson, and is being investigated by members of both the police and fire departments.
