BOSTON (AP) - An MBTA Green Line train has derailed in Boston, sending 10 people to hospitals with minor injuries. A spokeswoman for the Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority said the outbound train went off the track underground and hit a wall shortly after 12:20 this afternoon. The cause of the crash is being investigated. It occurred at the intersection of two branches of the Green Line just west of Kenmore Station, which is near Fenway Park.
FRAMINGHAM, Mass. (AP) - Spectators attending this year's Boston Marathon with backpacks, coolers and other large items will have them subject to search. Officials today strongly discouraged attendees from bringing such bags. At least 3,500 police officers will be spread across the eight cities and towns that make up the marathon route.
BOSTON (AP) - A lawyer for a friend of the surviving Boston Marathon bombing suspect says Dzhokhar Tsarnaev (joh-HAHR' tsahr-NEYE'-ehv) destroyed his own cellphone before being arrested. The lawyer for Dias Kadyrbayev (DYE'-us kad-uhr-BYE-ev) disclosed the information at a hearing today for three friends charged with trying to help Tsarnaev after the attack.
BELCHERTOWN, Mass. (AP) - About two dozen students charged in connection with a series of pre-St. Patrick's Day parties at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst have been arraigned. Police say more than 70 students face charges in connection with the "Blarney Blowout" parties Saturday and Sunday. About 50 students were taken into custody while 20 or so received a court summons.
BOSTON (AP) - The price of a gallon of gas in Massachusetts has climbed another 4 cents in the past week, and is now up 16 cents in the past month. AAA Southern New England said in its weekly survey released Monday that self-serve, regular is up to an average of $3.52 per gallon, which is 3 cents higher than the national average.
