Suspects Pull Off Daring Armored Truck Ripoff

Northeast Philadelphia -

Witnesses say three suspects wearing Halloween masks and carrying Tec-9 semi-automatics swooped in the parking lot at Wells Fargo Bank and held up a guard outside an armored car, reportedly getting away with over $300,000.

"He said they're getting away, they jumped in the van and they're headed down Frankford Avenue," said one woman who was cutting a customer's hair at the Unique Images Salon just across the street.

"There was no scream, no nothing. Like it was dead silence, weird silence," said Adrienne Burney, who also works at the salon.

Within a few seconds, police found a Plymouth Voyager abandoned on the 3400 block of Arthur Street just half a mile away. Markee Dunleavy lives on the block

"It was scary," she told FOX 29. "They just parked their car right there and ran up the block."

"It's a little scary, a little too close to home," another woman said. "It took seconds, they were there for maybe 10 seconds and they were in and out."

Police and FBI agents quickly descended on the crime scene and began gathering evidence trying to piece together the daring mid-morning heist. The guard who was held up looked rattled as he re-enacted what happened for FBI agents.

"I just went over to check on the guard. He was down on the ground, I said are you okay, he said yeah it's not the first time it happened," one witness said.

"I think it was planned, Burney said. "I think it was definitely planned. He said it's the second time it happened to him."

Investigators scoured the Arthur Street drop off spot for the getaway car looking evidence and home surveillance video of the bandits making their getaway.

One witness told agents the suspects got into a Pontiac Bonneville with tinted windows and sped away from the block where they dumped the van.

"I think there was like 5 of them, their car was like up there that they jumped in, that they had ready," Dunleavy told FOX 29.

No one was hurt in the robbery.

Markee Dunleavy is just glad she wasn't outside when the suspects bailed out of the van and fled the scene.

"Had I been getting out of the car at that time with my daughter, they had big guns and stuff like that. It's scary," she said.

"They had to be mapping that out for a while for that to happen," Burney said. "He had a gun, if he would have shot somebody that just puts a damper on the neighborhood."

    NICE EASTER WEEKEND

The first half of the holiday weekend has been great and Easter Sunday looks just as nice. Clouds thin out late tonight with temperatures falling back to the 40s.

Initially it'll be jacket weather early Sunday morning but plenty of sunshine will warm us into the 60s by afternoon.  High temperatures will be a few degrees cooler than Saturday.

It will be noticeably cooler and breezy at the shore with highs in the low 50s.  Quiet conditions continue into Monday.
