Posted: Updated:

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Police are looking for a suspect who forced a 12-year-old girl into a car at knifepoint while she was walking to school Thursday morning.

At around 7:30 this morning, Boston police said the girl was walking in the area of Dudley and Shirley streets in Roxbury when a man claiming to be "Kevin" or "Calvin" kidnapped her at knifepoint. Police described the man as a dark-skinned black man with a thin build in his 20s. He may have had braided hair and was wearing a gray sweatshirt, jeans, and a bluish black baseball hat.

The man was driving a silver Volvo sedan, and the car had a large laundry basket in the back seat, as seen on surveillance cameras. Police provided images of the car from the footage.

The victim told police officers she was able to jump out of the car on Dudley Street near Dearborn Street, and ran to the Timilty Middle School. Police say she was not physically harmed.

Detectives  investigating the circumstances of the incident asked anyone with information to call District  B-2 (Roxbury) detectives at 617-343-4275. Additionally, anyone who wants to remain anonymous can call CrimeStoppers at 1(800) 494-TIPS or text the word ‘TIP' to CRIME (27463).

Police encouraged residents to contact 911 if they observe any suspicious people in the area.
