Fund set up to fix man's car flipped during World Series celebration

Posted: Updated:

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) – One of the most infamous images from fans' celebration of the 2013 Red Sox World Series win was a flipped car a few blocks from Kenmore Square.

The car's owner, Chad Duncan, went to find his vehicle Thursday morning and instead found broken glass.

"I'm not happy about it. It's a bunch of stupid kids, there's no reason to do things like that," said Duncan.

After the car got flipped, it got towed and it left Duncan stranded.

"I don't have a way to get to work. In the short term I'm not sure, I'm still trying to figure it out," said Duncan.

Enter Bobby O'Neill.

"I was around Fenway in 2004 when there were some tragedies there," said O'Neill. "I've had enough of that and not doing something about it."

O'Neill went online to GoFundMe.com and set up an account for Duncan.

"The deductible is around $1,000 and the fees around $1,500," said Duncan.

As of Thursday evening, the goal had been met.

"It's amazing. I'm very surprised. I didn't expect anything like that," said Duncan.

O'Neill said the after Wednesday night, this is the spirit of Boston he wants Chad, who is from Oregon, to see.

"The whole point of the page is: ‘They don't represent Boston. They don't represent Red Sox fans.' You don't hear enough about the other side of the story. Four or five people flipped a car but how many hundreds didn't do that?"
