Cats Seized From Grace Kelly's Childhood Home

Posted: Updated:

The childhood home of Hollywood icon and Philadelphia native Grace Kelly is in the spotlight.

SPCA Officers swarmed the East Falls home after a report of animal hoarding.

Investigators tell us the 81-year-old woman who currently owns the home has been involuntarily committed after they found more than a dozen animals living in deplorable conditions.

The PSPCA say Bamont's accused of animal cruelty. On Thursday, investigators got a warrant to search the home after someone called to complain. Inside, they found evidence of cat hoarding. One was dead.

"This turned into a hoarding situation where she didn't have the resources to care for these animals," George Benga, Director of Humane Law Enforcement said.

The PSPCA said Bamont used to work with cat rescue groups.

Neighbor Alexis Franklin has known the owner of this home, 81-year-old Marjorie Bamont for years.

"She was always an animal lover and dog rescuer. People have been known to drive up to her property and drop off cats and dogs not upon request and she was good at finding homes for them," Franklin said.

Bamont bought the home in 1973. Authorities are now working to get her proper health care.

"it's pretty sad. I know she's aging so it may have to do with we age and not having the ability to do what she used to," Franklin said.
