Gina's People: Deck My Room

Posted: Updated:

This week in Gina's People, we meet a group of ladies who could be described as the dream team of decorators. But no one ever hired them to do the job. They just do it.

They arrive at Children's Hospital Los Angeles with wagons full of stuff, boys and girls are going to love. Decorator Jennifer Hull says, "I have the best job in the world. I get to make people happy. What's better than that?"

Hull started 'Deck My Room' this past March. She and her girlfriends decorate the rooms of kids who are staying at Children's Hospital. These are children with serious medical conditions. The ladies of 'Deck My Room' find out what the kids like and they get to work. In less than one hour, they transform a dreary hospital room into beautiful explosions of pink and blue.  The children are always pleasantly surprised. Hull says she started doing this for one single reason, "Just to bring happiness, that's what we're here on this earth to bring love and bring happiness. For me, I just feel inspired, every day I get to be here."

So far, they've decorated 55 rooms since they started.  All of the money comes from private donations.  If you'd like to help, please contact Jenny on her personal e-mail. Or at the Deck My Room official website.

    A Rare Condition

Hell on earth, that's how some doctors describe Recessive Dystrophic Epidermolysis Bullosa also known as E.B. It's a horrible genetic disease that Nicky Zahorcak was born with. A lot of his skin is raw, the slightest touch can cause blisters that quickly spread. He says, "Right now, all the bandages that you see everywhere even on my sides, they're all raw skin." His mother Silvia says very few people know about this rare condition and she wants to change that.
