Police: Man steals $43K from HOA, returns it

KENNESAW, Ga. -

Police say a Cobb County man stole from his neighborhood's homeowners association and then returned the money.

Police say that weeks after Josh Goshay was elected treasurer of the HOA in the McEver Woods subdivision in Kennesaw, he began taking money. They said he issued checks to himself and used the association's debit card.

"He did do some travel, he rented a banquet hall, apparently and he also purchased some tires for his vehicle," said Lt. Craig Graydon of the Kennesaw Police Department.

In all, authorities believe he stole more than $43,000.

A few months ago, police say he started giving the money back in large chunks of $10,000 or more.

Goshay told FOX 5's Denise Dillon on the phone that he has paid back all of the money. He said that since he returned the funds, he didn't think it was an issue.

Police believe otherwise. Goshay still faces felony theft by taking charges. He reportedly told authorities that he will turn himself in on Friday.

The HOA has elected a new treasurer.
