Weekend repairs scheduled on I-88

AURORA, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Eastbound lane closures are scheduled this weekend on Interstate 88 between the Fox River in Aurora and Route 59 in Naperville as part of ongoing pavement repairs, the Beacon-News is reporting.

Delays are expected and drivers are encouraged to plan additional time for travel this weekend.

One lane was scheduled to close 7 p.m. Friday for the duration of the repairs and a second lane was scheduled to close at 8 p.m. to begin pavement removal. Two of the three lanes will be reopened by 10 a.m. on Saturday to reduce the impact on weekend travel.

At 7 p.m. on Saturday, traffic between the Fox River and Farnsworth Avenue will be reduced to one lane overnight so crews can pour concrete for roadway repairs. The section from Farnsworth Avenue to Route 59 will close at 8 p.m. Two of the three lanes will be reopened by 8 a.m. on Sunday. A single lane will remain closed to allow the new concrete to set and cure with all three lanes scheduled to reopen by 5 a.m. on Monday.

In addition to providing a safe work zone for construction workers and drivers, the closures are necessary to maintain safe access to entrance and exit ramps at Eola Road and Farnsworth Avenue. The weekend lane closures will allow work to be completed in one weekend instead of over two weeks, tollway officials said.
