Federal education official to speak in Atlanta

Posted: Updated:

ATLANTA (AP) - A senior U.S. Department of Education official is scheduled to speak during a community forum in Atlanta.

Department of Education officials say senior adviser for nonprofit partnerships Michael Robbins is giving closing remarks at the Grad Nation Community Forum at the Loudermilk Center in Atlanta on Wednesday.

Officials say Robbins is expected to talk about the types of partnerships among schools, communities and families that are necessary to keep students engaged.

Grad Nation, a branch of the America's Promise Alliance, is a group of organizations looking to address dropout rates in American schools. The organization's goal is raising the country's high school graduation rate to 90 percent by year 2020.
