Police: Gurnee man killed, dog hurt in hit-and-run

GURNEE, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Police are looking for a hit-and-run driver after a man was killed and a dog was injured early Saturday in north suburban Gurnee.

Police received a call at 3:44 a.m. of a man down in the roadway near the southbound entrance ramp from Washington Street to Route 41 in Gurnee, according to a statement from Gurnee police Cmdr. William Meyer.

Officers and paramedics found Timothy Fleming, 31, of the 100 block of Waveland Avenue in Gurnee, dead on the scene next to an injured dog. No vehicles were found in the area, police said.

Police think Fleming was struck by a driver sometime between 3:30 and 3:44 a.m., the statement said.

Gurnee police are investigating.
