Poll shows many still in favor of casinos in Mass.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A new poll released Monday revealed that when it comes to casinos in Massachusetts, many people support bringing them to the state, but they just might not want them in their communities.

The new survey from the Western New England University Polling Institute in Springfield found 61 percent of adults in Massachusetts want casinos in the state. At the same time, however,  55 percent said they would oppose having one in their own community.

Earlier in November, East Boston defeated a casino proposal for Suffolk Downs, while Revere voters approved it. Officials at Suffolk Downs sent a letter to the Massachusetts Gaming Commission Thursday stating they would still pursue a casino on the Revere side of the property. In the western part of the state, voters in Palmer rejected a casino proposal by Mohegan Sun.

In September, West Springfield voters defeated a casino proposal there, while Springfield and Everett voters approved it.

State law approved in 2011 allows for 3 resort casinos in Massachusetts.

Voters in Milford will head to the polls Tuesday to vote on a proposed community in that town.
