NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

NASA and the U.S. military launched a Minotaur I rocket from the Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport in Virginia Tuesday night.

Places along the eastern United States, including the New York metropolitan region, got a decent look at the rocket launch. NASA said that the launch would be visible in places with clear weather from southern Canada to northern Florida and as far west as Indiana.

The launch window opened at 7:30 p.m., and the rocket lifted off at about 8:15 p.m.

The rocket's primary payload was an Air Force satellite, but it also carried 28 other satellites, including one built by high school students, NASA said.
