Loyola eases past Rockhurst 83-65

CHICAGO (November 19, 2013) – Milton Doyle scored a season-high 24 points, hitting10 of 13 shots from the field, and added five rebounds, five assists and threesteals as Loyola University Chicago (2-2) earned an 83-65 victory over a peskyRockhurst University (2-2) squad tonight at Gentile Arena. The Ramblers shot 55percent (32-for-58) from the field and dished out a season-best 20 assists tosnap a two-game losing skid and move to 2-0 at home this season.

"Rockhurst is agreat shooting team and wouldn't go away so I give them a lot of credit,"Loyola head coach Porter Moser said."The stat that excites me is 20 assists and the other thing that I liked wasMilton's energy level defensively. His energy was contagious."

The Ramblers tookcontrol of the game from the outset, scoring 10 unanswered points to open thecontest, five coming from Doyle, before a basket by Kareem Amedu put the Hawkson the board.

Loyola wouldstretch the lead to 17 points when Doyle connected for his second three-pointerof the half to make it 26-9, but the gritty Rockhurst squad wouldn't goquietly. The Hawks rattled off 10 straight points of their own to close withinseven before Loyola was able to push its advantage back to double digits.

Rockhurst wasable to get within 10 points, at 47-37 with 15:57 remaining in the game, but abucket by Nick Osborne sparked a 9-2 Loyola run, which was capped by another threefrom Doyle, that extended the lead to 56-39. From that point forward, theRamblers never allowed the Hawks to get closer than 14 points.

In addition toDoyle's productive night at both ends of the floor, Christian Thomas tallied 18 points and 10 rebounds to extend hisstreak of double-digit-scoring efforts to 20. The junior forward has nowrecorded a double-double in five of his last 10 games.

Devon Turk pitched in 11 points and Joe Crisman added 10 to round outLoyola's crop of double-digit scorers.

 Rockhurst was ledby Brandon McCann's 15 points.

Loyola travels toPortland State, where it will face the host Vikings on Friday (Nov. 22) to openup play at the Portland State Invitational. The Ramblers will play three gamesin three days at the tournament, matching up with UC Davis on November 23 and SIUEdwardsville on November 24.
