UGA art museum to show Catherine the Great films

Posted: Updated:

ATHENS, Ga. (AP) - The art museum at the University of Georgia plans to present a series of films on the reign of Catherine the Great.

The university says the films will be shown in November and December to complement the exhibition "Exuberance of Meaning: The Art Patronage of Catherin the Great (1762-1796)," which runs through Jan. 5.

The university says the three films give viewers a peek at life in the Russian Empire and provide context for the objects in the exhibition.

All three films will be shown at 7 p.m. on Thursdays at the museum and admission is free and open to the public. "The Scarlet Empress" will be shown Nov.21; "The Russian Ark" will be shown Dec. 5; and "A Royal Scandal" will be shown Dec. 12.
