Newton police investigate possible attempted abduction

Posted: Updated:

NEWTON, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Newton police are investigating reports of a possible attempted kidnapping.

Investigators responded to the 400 block of Wolcott Street at about 1:30 p.m. Saturday after receiving calls about an incident involving an 11-year-old girl.

The girl told police a green mini van pulled over to the side of the street while she was walking. She said the male driver exited the car, approached the trunk, and lifted the back door. He then reportedly removed a "shiny object" from the trunk and made a statement to the girl, which caused her to run away.

Police were called to the scene when the girl arrived home. A search of the area for the suspect and the van were unsuccessful.

The suspect is described as a white man with a medium build who is between 30 and 40 years old. He is about 6' tall, with salt and pepper hair, and scruffy facial hair. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a white t-shirt and blue jeans.

Anyone with information is asked to call Newton police at 617-796-2100 or the Tip Line at 617-796-2121.
