DeKalb County special education teacher accused of abuse

Posted: Updated:
DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -

A DeKalb County teacher is facing serious criminal charges after being accused of abusing her students.

Allegations of verbal and physical abuse have led to the removal of Toria Ross as a special education at Stone Mountain Elementary school. The alleged victims are three of Ross' students at the school.

DeKalb school officials issued a statement confirming that an allegation of verbal and physical abuse against the teacher was recently brought to their attention.  Dates on the incident report suggest that the alleged abuse dates back to August. The district confirms the alleged victims include a 9-year-old boy and 9 and 10-year-old girls.

Two of the victims' parents told FOX 5 their children are disabled and unable to speak.  They said a school district official  told them about the abuse late last week, but they wouldn't go into detail about what Ross is accused of doing to their children.

School officials say they removed Ross, 36, from the school last week.

A school spokesman told FOX 5 that the health and safety of every child is a high priority.  He said the district has also reported the allegations to DFACS.

Ross was hired by the district in 2009. On her LinkedIn profile, Ross describes herself as an educator with 12 years' experience working with children with disabilities and autism.  On her profile page, Ross mentions she's working on her MBA and looking for a more challenging career.
