Holidays travel and your workouts: How to stay track

If you've been working hard to get in shape, you definitely don't want to get tripped up by the holidays.  Between the traveling, the temptation, and being thrown off your routine, it's easy to get off the workout wagon.  But never fear: the FOX Medical Team won't let you!

We asked for advice from someone who has been there.  Six years ago, Chaunda Walker Walls lost 120 pounds and transformed herself.  Now, she's a personal trainer.  She says the secret to staying on track when you travel is planning ahead and thinking outside the box.

Tonique Reynolds has been working hard to get in shape—with Walls' help.  After about six months, she's lost a total of 20 pounds, and she says training with the Bella Fitness Group has been a lifestyle change.  

But sticking with your workout when you're traveling can be tricky.  Walls recommends packing some lightweight exercise tools, like a jump rope.  She says if you're good at jumping rope, you can go for time—and jumping rope for 5 minutes is about the same as running 2 miles. Walls says that also works your core and your abs—as well as your legs.  You're burning calories, and in turn—fat.

She also says instead of a carry-on bag, travel with a backpack.  It weighs more, and you can use it for weight resistance.  Walls says you can wear the backpack while you squat, lunge, and do pushups.  

When you get to your destination, look around.  Walls says if you're staying in a hotel, find the stairs.  Hands down, she calls it the best exercise you can do on the road. If you prefer walking or running, find the hotel's treadmill or a nearby park.

No matter what, she says the key is consistency.  Get out there--- no matter where you are—and get a workout in.
