Hospital tech behind N.H. Hepatitis C outbreak gets 39 years

Posted: Updated:

EXETER, N.H. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A former Exeter Hospital worker who infected dozens with Hepatitis C was sentenced to 39 years in prison Monday.

David Kwiatkowski admitted to stealing painkillers and replacing them with saline-filled syringes tainted with his blood. As a result, 46 people in four states were diagnosed with the same strain of Hepatitis C between 2003 and 2012. One person has since died.

The traveling technician pleaded guilty to 16 federal drug charges in August under and agreement which calls for him to spend 30 to 40 years behind bars.

Victims from as far away as Kansas planned to appear in federal court for sentencing.
