$150K of equipment stolen from Atlanta Water Department

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

Nearly $150,000 of equipment was stolen from the Atlanta Department of Watershed.

Sources tell FOX 5's Morse Diggs that 28 industrial water meters weighing up to 700 pounds vanished from a pipe yard on Peyton Road in northwest Atlanta. The meters, which cost $5,210 each, were reported missing last week.

Department of Watershed Commissioner Jo Ann Macrina declined comment to FOX 5, saying that the case was in the hands of investigators.

Atlanta City Councilman Howard Shook said the theft should force the department to manage its inventory better and pay better attention.

Sources told FOX 5 that records indicate the last time that the pipe yard had been checked was back in June.  There were no cameras in that area, according to a police report.
