NAPERVILLE, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A 22-year-old accused drunken driver is free on bond and awaiting trial, after Naperville police said his sport utility vehicle left a roadway and struck several signs, trees and a hot tub before falling into a backyard swimming pool on the city's far south side, the Naperville Sun is reporting.

Phillip T. Myung lives on the 3200 block of Cool Springs Court, southwest of 95th Street and Route 59 and just east of Naperville's Tall Grass neighborhood. He faces trial on eight charges that include driving under the influence, hit and run and marijuana possession, Naperville police Cmdr. Lou Cammiso said.

Myung was arrested about 3:59 a.m. Sunday at his home, according to written police records. He apparently went there following the crash, which occurred in the residential Springbrook Crossing-Brook Crossing area to the northeast.

Cammiso said police about 2:03 a.m. Sunday were sent to investigate a 911 call concerning a traffic crash. Officers soon discovered a silver, 2002 Toyota Highlander had been driven off the roadway near the intersection of Leverenz Road and Dewhurst Street, Cammiso said Wednesday via e-mail.

The SUV "crashed into several street signs, small trees and other objects before going through a back yard" on the 1200 block of Leverenz Road, Cammiso said. It came to rest outside a house after "striking a hot tub and landing in an in-ground pool," he said.

Myung, who was allegedly behind the wheel at the time, "fled the scene and was subsequently arrested a short time later," Cammiso said.

He was not injured in the crash, nor were the occupants of the home where the SUV was found.

"Upon further investigation, (Myung) was arrested and charged with DUI," along with reckless driving, hit and run, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident/driving too fast for conditions, driving without insurance, possession of less than 30 grams of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and improper lane use, Cammiso said.

A preliminary court appearance date for Myung had not been set as of Thursday. An examination of court documents revealed he has no signifficant record in DuPage, Kane and Will counties.
