Amazon launches grocery delivery in San Francisco

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Internet retailer Amazon is expanding its small grocery delivery business into San Francisco.

The company has announced AmazonFresh in select zip codes in the Bay area with more than 500,000 items available.

The company is charging a yearly $299 fee for the service, that includes free delivery.

According to Amazon, customers who place an order by 10 a.m. will get a delivery by 6 p.m. Any order placed by 10 p.m. will be delivered by 6 a.m., according to Amazon.

It says that most items are available for same-day or early next-morning delivery.

The service says it includes diverse items from local specialty stores and restaurants, from bakery to ethnic foods to gourmet meals including fresh salmon from San Francisco Fish Company.

It warns that some items may require more advance ordering time.

Amazon has already been delivering groceries in Los Angeles and Seattle.
