Teen killed while crossing street on Detroit's east side

DETROIT (WJBK) -

Detroit police say a teenage girl was killed while crossing a street on the city's east side Friday.

The 14-year-old victim was crossing Gratiot one block south of 7 Mile Road when she was struck by a Chrysler Sebring around 7 a.m., police say.

Police say the victim was carrying a backpack and did not use a crosswalk.

The 31-year-old driver is being questioned by police as the investigation continues.

The victim's name has not been released.
