Accused serial robber held without bail

Posted: Updated:

MALDEN, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A man police say admitted to robbing several doughnut shops and banks was held without bail following a court appearance Friday.

Dennis Stacks listened as the litany of charges he is facing were read. Police say Stacks racked up cash by robbing banks and stores.

Police say a man walked away from a Honey Dew Donuts in Malden with $270 in cash on Sept. 9. A cashier identified Stacks from a photo array, saying it gave her chills to see his face again.

On the same day and less than a mile from the Honey Dew on Eastern Avenue, Malden police say a man walked into Dunkin' Donuts and threatened the cashier with a gun. Assistant district attorney Anna Evans claims he ran out of the store without money after he was asked to repeat himself.

Police say stacks admitted to robberies at both shops. They also say he admitted to robbing a Bank of America in Everett, getting away with $3,670.

Stacks reportedly confessed to robbing a Citizens Bank in Woburn for $7,000 and attempting to rob another bank in Wakefield.

FOX 25's Brett Connolly asked his lawyer if he agrees with all these admissions of guilt.

"Not entirely, no, but we'll fight that another day," Attorney Matthew Campbell replied.

According to police reports read in court, Stacks says he has a drug problem and is feeding his disease.

Stacks is due back in court on Dec. 18.
