CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A firefighter was injured and 14 people, including nine children, were displaced after a fire in the South Chicago neighborhood early Saturday.

Crews responded to the blaze that broke out in a three-story home at 1:50 a.m. in the 9000 block of South Houston Avenue, police News Affairs Officer Jose Estrada said.

The fire was extinguished by 2:30 a.m., according to Fire Media Affairs.

One firefighter was taken to MetroSouth Medical Center in Blue Island, and a 48-year-old woman was taken to Advocate Trinity Hospital for smoke inhalation. Both were listed in good condition, according to Fire Media.

The city Dept. of Human Services was contacted to assist five adults and nine children displaced by the fire, authorities said.

A preliminary investigation suggested it may have been an electrical fire that started in the building's attic, police said.
