Parents accused of abusing 15-month-old child

CARROLL COUNTY, Ga. -

Police have arrested a mother and father in Carroll County after the couple's 15-month-old child was hospitalized with critical injuries.

The Carroll County Sheriff's Office has charged Steven Harry, 32, and Kristin Parmer, 25, with cruelty to children.

Investigators allege that the couple abused the young boy at the Carroll Inn in Carrollton. Police said the family lived at that motel.

On Sunday, the boy was taken to a hospital in Carrollton and then flown to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite. Medics notified authorities after medical staff suspected abuse.

Investigators said that the boy had recent head injuries and other injuries consistent with prior abuse.

"Fractures I think from the arms, the ribs, the jaw area," said Chief Deputy Brad Robinson of the Carroll County Sheriff's Department. "Obviously this has been going on for some time with this little boy."

Investigators said the child is fighting for his life. His grandfather, Joe Harry, said the family is asking for prayers. Harry said that he believes his son is incapable of the kind of abuse he's accused of.

Harry and Parmer are being held at the Carroll County Detention Center. Authorities said they have another child, a 2-year-old, who has been place in custody of Division of Family and Children Services.
