Detroit Police along with state, federal and local partner agencies teamed up to conduct Operation "Mistletoe," which they describe as a narcotics blitz and warrant sweep. At least 37 people have been arrested.

Detroit police fronted two other massive raids on Nov. 15 and Dec. 3.

There are three certainties: The dog bites, the politician lies and the dope man never sleeps.

So Detroit cops hit the west-side dope houses near the epicenter of the 1967 riots. This is the continuation of Operation "Restore Order." The name speaks for itself.

This chapter: Operation "Mistletoe."

The police and their partners in law enforcement hit the most violent corner of the west side of Detroit Tuesday, an area that has seen 27 shooting victims this year and 20 of those were dope related.

Enough's enough.

So 350 law enforcement officers swept a mile-and-a-half area looking for felons and narcotics.

"Did you know about Operation "Mistletoe?" Did you know we were coming to the west side? ... Did you know we were coming to visit - right now? Happy holidays," Detroit Police Chief says inside one of the homes.

Operation "Mistletoe."

Here is crack and heroin found in Carlos' coat, and here is his cell phone. Here are his friends (on the phone) who were freaking out.

And here is the Chief of Police: "We are sorry that this wasn't done long time ago. I am sorry. I'm apologizing to the city of Detroit because this hasn't been done before. This should have been done years ago."

One happy neighbor says, "It is dangerous, but I'm glad they're finally coming around and doing something about it." Another neighbor tells the Chief to "keep it up."

At the time of this report there have been 35 arrests; cocaine, heroin, and marijuana confiscated.

Detroit police are doing better because less money is being paid to creditors and more is being invested in police services. Go on an exclusive ride to see how the fight on crime is getting new support.
Detroit is a godforsaken place.  Everyone knows that.  Detroit is a mess, no doubt. Here's the thing: some of the factors that put Detroit $18 billion in debt could be factors in your town. Cities all over the country are struggling to pay for health care and retiree pensions. They're seeing revenues from property taxes and sales taxes drop as they try to pay for expensive projects that were approved before the recession.
