HUDSON, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Two women accused of scheming to assault and rob an elderly woman outside a Petco were arraigned in Marlboro District Court on Monday.
On Wednesday evening, an 81-year-old woman was loading items into her car when a woman approached her and began talking to her. Suddenly, she began attacking the woman, knocked her to the ground, stole her purse and ran away.
The woman was taken to an area hospital and is recovering from her injuries.
The elderly victim's credit card was used at the Walmart in Hudson, and video surveillance from the store showed two women leaving the store after using the stolen credit card. In total, they bought approximately $1,000 worth of merchandise with the card.
Using images from the video surveillance, police distributed photos of the women to area police departments and Mass. Most Wanted's website. An anonymous tip and leads from the Framingham police led Hudson police to arrest sisters Anna Nevarez, 40, of Boston, and Lizette Nevarez, 47, of Marlboro.
Anna Nevarez was charged with unarmedrobbery of a victim over the age of 65, and assault and battery on a victim over theage of 65. Both sisters were arraigned on a number of charges related to credit card theft and larceny.
In a statement, Hudson Police Lieutenant Richard DiPersio said the entire Hudson Police Department took the incident personally, and added that "thiswas the case of an innocent, elderly woman who was the victim of a cowardly,senseless violent attack in our community. Everyofficer, every detective, and every agency involved was affected by the natureof this unimaginable act of violence."
